Agnanum "Sabbia Vulcanica" 2023 Vino Rosso Campania

Brambly, inky, smoky; like seedy blackberries fresh off the vine; perfect for wood-fired pizza's deliciously charred edges; persistant & long.
Ungrafted Piedirosso planted on volcanic sand, or 'sabbia vulcanica' in Italian. A medium bodied red with lots of local character and elegance, rustic but easy enough to be versatile with anything from weeknight pasta to Sunday roast chicken. This is a lot of wine for the price.
Raffaelle Moccia is one of the few who still tend vines on the steep terraces of Campi Flegrei west of Naples. Vines have been here since the Romans but nowadays most people find it too difficult to work since it's too steep to allow for farm machinery. Raffaelle's rabbit farm was his main source of income for many years.
No chemicals are used in the vineyards and sulfur is kept to a minimum.
