Agricola La Portera 'Tardano' 2021 Garnacha Cariñena, Aragon
Agricola La Portera 'Tardano' 2021 Garnacha Cariñena, Aragon
750ml bottle
14% abv
Full of red cherry, raspberry, licorice, and hints of pepper, it is medium-bodied, fresh, and spicy, complex and alluring.
Fruit sourced from two parcels in the village of Almonacid de la Sierra, which sit on limestone and clay soils. The vines were planted in 1983 and sit 2100 ft. ASL. This is a unique take on Garnacha.
Born in 2017 with the desire to bottle small parcels of old vine Bobal from Javier’s home region of Valencia. The original vineyard is in the tiny village of La Portera which gives its name to the wine. In 2019 the project was expanded to a Garnacha sourced from a couple of plots in Cariñena
The La Portera wines are fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged in neutral vessels, mostly concrete, which results in elegant rather than powerful wines, and showcases both wonderful grape varieties and their respected regions
"Garnacha is all the rage, and this wine represents our commitment to bring the essence of this world class variety, whose origin lies in the Ebro Valley, more precisely in Aragón. A delightful wine, crafted and nurtured mostly in concrete, without any make-up, Tardano is a naked expression of this grape and its place.Tardano comes from the Spanish word 'tardío', or belated. Jorge, Javier, and Francisco had hoped to release their Garnacha from Cariñena in 2020, but due to the COVID pandemic, had to postpone the release to 2022."
