Rosalba Cifuentes Tovia, founder of Mayan Harvest Coffee, was raised in the mountainous, coffee-growing region of Bella Vista, Chiapas. The hardships she faced in her youth motivated her to move to the San Francisco Bay Area to seek greater opportunity. As she saw the growth of specialty coffee shops, she wondered why she didn’t see any Mexican coffees being featured. In an effort to elevate the reputation of Mexican coffee and organize coffee farmers who have historically been taken advantage of by predatory “coyote” middlemen, Rosalba returned to Bella Vista and created Mayan Harvest Coffee. Mayan Harvest works with producers with small plots of land (averaging 5 acres) and pays them higher prices. She ensures traceability for her community coffee by personally exporting the coffee directly to the Bay Area.

Mayan Harvest began working with 38 family farmers in Bella Vista, and has since grown to working with 200 small lot producers and counting! This coffee is a crowd pleaser with rich notes of dried mango, milk chocolate, and almond. It’s substantial on its own, but also holds up well to cream and sugar!
