In 2016 Vittorio Zoppi and Filippo Antonelli founded Antica Torino in Turin to produce and rediscover traditional Piedmont flavored wines, liqueurs, and spirits, using ancient family recipes.
The Torino Dry Vermouth is created from a 1950’s recipe called “extract for dry vermouth.” Among the ingredients are several absinthe, yarrow muscat, centaurea, hyssop, thistle, and sage, expertly employing both mountain and garden herbs. The maceration of the ingredients occurs separately and, once joined, they are partially distilled following a long aging process in steel vats. The wine used is Cortese DOC from Piedmont, which renders a particular, elegant, floral, vinous vermouth with a strong aroma. The distillation of parts of the macerated ingredients provides longevity to the finished product.
Vermouth aficionados will love it straight on the rocks, with an orange twist. The cocktail crowd will like it mixed with gin or vodka to create the classic Martini, or the Perfect Martini. Or try it in the too-often-forgotten Old Pal.
