Charles Frey Rouge
750ml bottle
13% abv
Crimson red in the glass. Nose of rose petal, rhubarb, blood orange, and raspberry, with secondary salt, cranberry, and earth. The palate is pure & tense with pomegranate and nutmeg.
100% Pinot Noir. Sourced from four Willamette Valley sites, all dry farmed and at least practicing organic if not certified organic, biodynamic, and/or regenerative: La Sierra, Johan Vineyard, Stormy Morning vineyard, and Vojtilla.
Hand-harvested, destemmed, native yeasts, open-top fermentation, cuvaison 15 to 25 days, full malolactic fermentation. Aged 11 months in barrel, 20% new French and Austrian oak, 71% used, 9% concrete egg. Unfined and unfiltered.
The Willamette Valley Pinot Noir presents tremendous value for an Oregon Pinot of this winemaking rigor and barrel aging regimen. 2023 in the Willamette Valley was warm and dry with an early harvest, producing wines with generous fruit and natural balance.
Twill Cellars is the project of Chris Dickson, based in West Linn, Oregon, south of Portland. Dickson studied psychology and biology before redirecting entirely toward wine, spending years working with several well-regarded producers internationally before returning to Oregon. The winery is built around Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Syrah exclusively, sourced from vineyards with strong terroir and sustainable stewardship. The cellar philosophy is patience-first: Chardonnay spends 12 months in barrel followed by 6 to 10 months in stainless before release; Pinot Noir stays in élevage 11 to 18 months; the Willamette Valley Pinot is bottled at the same time as the single-vineyard wines, nearly two years after harvest. No shortcuts on any line in the range.
