Made in a lighter style than other European red vermouths, herbal notes are balanced with bright, fresh fruit, including sour cherry jam, plum skin, and dried Mission fig. Balanced sweetness, bitterness, and acidity.
Aguardiente distillate for maceration and Airén wine base for blending. 130 year-old copper still. Traditional botanicals are macerated in distillate and blended into neutral wine base. Botanicals include licorice, wormwood, gentian, cherry, and wild herbs.
Beautiful with lighter spirits, Acha Rojo is great with gin in a Martinez, with herbal liqueurs, blanco tequila, Sherry, and Jacoulot L’Authentique Marc. When in doubt, serve with a splash of soda water and green olives for the classic Hora del Vermut.
Destilerías Acha is a family distillery founded in 1906 in Amurrio, in the Basque Country's Álava province. The operation spans spirits and vermouth production, including a pacharán made from sloe berries harvested in the Orduna mountains. The vermouth range covers Blanco, Rojo, and Dry expressions, all using the same traditional Basque production approach. The Rojo is the most widely distributed of the three in the US market and is the style most associated with the traditional Spanish aperitivo ritual of the txikiteo, the Basque practice of moving between bars for small glasses of wine or vermouth before lunch.
Destilerías Acha is one of the oldest businesses in continuous operation in the Basque Country of Spain.
Initially founded in 1831 by Paúl Pomes in the city of Bilbao, Manuel Acha later joined the enterprise to manage the distillery. In 1880, the two men expanded to a larger building in the town of Amurrio. Paúl Pomes soon retired and sold his portion of the business to Manuel Acha. Destilerías Acha has been owned by the Acha family since 1886 and is led today by the savvy and charismatic Gabriel Acha, who is steeped in Basque cocktail and culinary culture.
