Domaine de Trévallon 2022 Rouge Alpilles, Provence
Domaine de Trévallon 2022 Rouge Alpilles, Provence
750ml bottle
13% abv
Powerful, fresh, and elegant. Lots of blackcurrant and blackberry, peppery spice, garrigue, and a graphite/mineral edge. The palate is silky, balanced, and long, with fine tannins and surprising freshness for the vintage. Structured, serious, and built to age. Best with some years in bottle but already refined. Benefits from a good, long decanting.
Organically farmed. Whole cluster, wild yeast fermentation. The wine undergoes regular punch-downs and pump-overs of the cap before extended aging. Aged for 24 months in foudres.
One of the great estates of France, Trevallon is located in Les Baux de Provence, and produces a spellbinding wine from whole cluster Syrah & Cabernet Sauvignon. It ages incredibly well, and can be a little austere in its youth.
The Durbach family plows to encourage the roots of the vines to plunge deeper into the soil for water and nutrients, and they believe in pruning short, which not only reduces the yields but extends the life of the plant by 20 to 50 years. Thirty year old vines grown in the Trevallon Valley at the base of the rocky walls of the Alpilles mountain range.
