Dominique Gruhier 2022 Bourgogne Rouge Epineuil
"Gruhier crafts reds reminiscent of Chablisien Pinot Noir. The secret lies in the kimmeridgian limestone terroir, echoing the purity and clarity of Chablis white wines. With fruit that shimmers and mineral notes that evoke the vineyards from which the wine hails, each sip unveils elegance that even the renowned Mugnier admires. This bottle represents a rare adventure into the fun and purity of the craft from this Domaine, often times the road less traveled can yield the most beautiful results and this wine is no exception. A slight chill and this bottle will be sure to surprise everyone at your table."

Located just 12 miles east of Chablis, Epineuil shares with its more famous neighbor the Kimmeridgian soils as well as a long history of growing grapes for wine, having been established by Cistercian monks early in the 13th century. Dominique Gruhier took over a centuries-old estate here in 1990. He has experienced intense hardship over the years, including frost, fire, and even a cellar collapse! Despite these and other difficulties, he has managed to grow his holdings to the current total of 28 hectares, and has farmed organically since 2003, becoming certified in 2014. Dominique’s positivity and warmth shine through to his wines, which are an amazing value, as the Epineuil and Tonnerre appellations of Burgundy continue to be a surprisingly well-kept secret. The wines undergo spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, and are aged in a mix of stainless steel and older barrels, with a minimum of sulfur additions.
