Violets, crushed raspberry, and black pepper on the nose. Red cherry, cranberry, earthy forest floor, and a light dusting of graphite on the palate. Fresh acidity, light crunchy tannins, subtle spice and herbal undertones throughout. Clean, savory finish.

100% Gamay Noir. Cedar Lane Vineyard, Arroyo Seco AVA, Monterey County. Sandy soils covered in large rocks, ideal for light aromatics and early ripening. One of California's coldest and windiest AVAs, often compared to Carneros. CCOF certified organic.

50% whole cluster fermentation in open-top fermenters. Fermented dry, pressed into neutral 500L puncheons. Aged on lees. No inoculation. No fining, no filtration.

The Arroyo Seco Gamay Noir is the most site-specific red in the Folk Machine range, dedicated entirely to Gamay from a single cold-climate AVA that suits the variety's need for cool temperatures and early ripening.

"We planted/grafted these vines with the Chesboro family at Cedar Lane in Arroyo Seco going on about 10 year ago now. There is a total of about 4 acres, some planted new and some grafted on old rootstock. Originally, our plan was to make red wine, but the vines got off to a slow start and in year 4, we made rose to harvest earlier and give the vines a break. Turned out really well so we basically kept making rosé with the full production until 2023 when we made a little bit of red as well. Soils there are typical for the area, very sandy/alluvial and temps are generally moderate with wind. A lot like Carneros in the North." – Winemaker's notes
