750ml bottle
13% abv
Citrus, strawberry, raspberry, and peach on the nose, with lemon blossom, lemon zest, white flowers, and white pepper. Crisp and persistent on the palate, with a light texture and a clean finish.
100% Nebbiolo. Young estate vineyards in Vergne, Barolo, the highest point of the Barolo hills. Organically farmed since 1971, certified sustainable (Equalitas 3E). Spontaneous cover crop and grassing maintained for nearly 50 years. Biodiversity monitoring across vineyards, winery fields, and surrounding forests.
Fruit picked between August 19 and mid-September 2025. Approximately half the Nebbiolo underwent saignée, a short skin contact at low temperature; the remaining half was gently pressed to minimize extraction. No malolactic fermentation, to preserve freshness and acidity. Short lees aging prior to bottling. Stelvin closure.
The 2025 vintage at Vajra was marked by very low yields following abundant spring rains and several hail events that naturally reduced the crop. An early Nebbiolo budbreak, a warm June, and a harvest conducted under bright days with wide diurnal temperature shifts produced fruit of high quality and precision despite the reduced quantity.
G.D. Vajra was established by Aldo Vajra in the late 1960s in Vergne, the highest village in the Barolo zone, and is now run by his children Giuseppe, Isidoro, and Francesca. Aldo was among the earliest adopters of organic farming in Piedmont, beginning the conversion in 1971 while still a university student. The estate farms approximately 35 hectares across several Barolo crus (Bricco delle Viole, Fossati, Coste di Rose, and Ravera) as well as parcels planted to Barbera, Dolcetto, Freisa, Riesling, and Pinot Nero. The Rosabella is produced annually in limited quantity as the estate's only rosé, made exclusively from Nebbiolo and designed for early drinking.
