"A new red blend for Jolie-Laide coming from a unique spread of vineyards dotted around California. In a departure from many of our more serious Rhone style blends the new Glou d’ Etat is a light summer crusher of a red wine made in a fun and irreverent style inspired by many of our favorite European wines. Soulful yet unpretentious, easy to drink and most importantly affordable so you needn’t worry about how many you open with friends. Great with a chill on it!
Foot stomped and whole cluster fermented with a slightly shorter maceration time to create a wine that is lighter in style, preserving aromatics but in keeping with a lower tannin profile making it perfect as a fresh and youthful red wine to drink slightly chilled. Tart cranberry, orange peel, dried flowers, garrigue, and earth tones finished with balanced acidity and lithe tannins."
In French, the term Jolie-Laide translates roughly to Pretty-Ugly, a term of endearment that means something is unconventionally beautiful. Sonoma, California winemakers Scott and Jenny Schultz work with trusted growers to source fruit from spectacular vineyard sites; the high-quality fruit allows them to keep things simple in the cellar. They ferment their grapes whole cluster, foot crush them, and the only additive is a the smallest amount of sulfur they can get away with before bottling.
