750ml bottle
12% abv
White flowers, apple blossom, and white peach on the nose. Fresh, supple, and delicate on the palate with blood orange, fleshy yellow nectarine, and a saline, briny finish. Firm acidity with a firm but subtle structure.
Pinot Blanc and Auxerrois, co-planted and blended. Rotenberg and Herrenweg plots in Turckheim and Wintzenheim, on colluvial deposits of gravelly-sandy substrate, alluvium, and pebbles. Average vine age 35 years. Demeter certified biodynamic. Hand-harvested.
Slow pneumatic pressing of 5 to 8 hours. Spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for approximately one month, then left to ferment at its own pace without temperature control. Lees aging. Gently filtered before bottling. No added enzymes, no selected yeasts, no chaptalization.
The Mise du Printemps takes its name from the traditional Alsatian practice of bottling in late February at the first sign of spring, releasing the wine young to preserve its freshness and primary fruit character. Josmeyer identifies Pinot Blanc and Auxerrois as the hallmarks of the estate, describing the Rotenberg and Herrenweg plots in Turckheim and Wintzenheim as particularly suited to these varieties in Alsace.
Excellent with spring vegetables, especially asparagus. Ideal with fish terrines, mussels, cockles, omelettes, soufflés, raw vegetables, and creamy cheeses.
Domaine Josmeyer has been based in Wintzenheim since 1854, across five generations of the Meyer family. Jean Meyer converted the estate to organic and biodynamic practices in the 1990s. His daughters Céline and Isabelle Meyer now manage the 28-hectare domaine, which includes parcels in Grand Cru Hengst and Grand Cru Brand. The domaine benefits from one of the lowest annual rainfall levels in France.
