Tamuna Bidzinashvilli is a radical winemaker even by Georgian standards. Part of the new wave of young Georgian winemakers, Tamuna is the only one in her ilk to blend indigenous grapes and work outside of the traditional framework while still employing the millennia old practices. Tamuna and her family farm 2 hectares of grapes and her winery sits in the shadow of the Gremi Fortress in the Kvareli district.
Tamuna formed her winery Kortavebis Marani in 2014. She planted 2.5 ha in Kakheti and started making wine with negocian grapes while waiting for the vineyard to grow. Now 60% of the grapes used are from the Kortavebis Marani property, there are 35 indigenous grape varietals growing as a kind of library. The wines are made in the traditional Georgian way, aged in qveri.
SELECTS is a collaboration between importer Roni Selects and their wonderful winemakers. Each year they work with a different producer to bring you a wine that tells the story of a place and a moment in time. It's meant to be consumed emphatically - with friends around a table as a vehicle for celebrating the occasion of being together.
