Les Vins de la Madone "Sauvignons Urfé" 2023 Côtes du Forez, Loire
750ml bottle
12.5% abv
Juicy & layered with bright stonefruit, flint, and light grip before a crisp, herbal finish.
Drawn from a small organic and biodynamic vineyard perched on the side of the Purchon volcano in the Côtes du Forez (upper Loire Valley).
The blend is 60% Sauvignon Gris and 40% Sauvignon Blanc from vines planted in 2011 in the region’s volcanic-rock (basalt) soils. The wine ferments with wild yeasts in stainless-steel tank, and Gilles Bonnefoy generally blocks malolactic conversion to harness as much energy as possible.
"Les Vins de la Madone, a wine estate located in the Côtes du Forez, is located in Champdieu, in the heart of the highest vineyard on the LOIRE river.
"Our vines are planted on soils of great diversity, linked to a geological fault at the origin of the formation of the Forez in the Tertiary era, at the time of the thrust of the Alps.
"Our vintages reflect the potential of the basalts around the volcanoes and of the different granites: Cuvée Migmatite rich in black mica, Cuvée Dacite rich in calcium.
In organic farming since 2001, and DEMETER certified biodynamic since 2009, we manually harvest all the plots, and vinify each of them separately.
"With one goal: to allow the different facets of our wonderful Forez terroir to express themselves."
