Domaine Chevrot 'Sur Le Chêne' 2022 Rouge Maranges, Bourgogne
750ml bottle
13% abv
Red fruits and blackcurrant on the nose, with mocha and cocoa notes. The palate shows flowers and raspberries, with lively acidity, hints of orange peel and licorice leaf, and a clean mineral finish. Supple texture throughout.
100% Pinot Noir. 3.16-hectare lieu-dit, south-facing steep terrace on calcareous gravel, limestone, and decomposed granite sand, Cheilly-les-Maranges. The Cozanne river borders the parcel, creating large diurnal temperature differences and contributing the granitic sand that gives the wine notable acidity. 50-year-old vines. Biodynamic, certified organic since 2008.
Hand-harvested with sorting. 30% whole-cluster. Indigenous yeast fermentation. No added SO2. No cold maceration. Aged in old oak barrels (5 to 10 years). Racked and blended in December, brief tank aging, racked once more at bottling in mid-January. No fining, no filtration.
The Sur le Chêne is the village-level red from Domaine Chevrot's three-hectare lieu-dit in Cheilly-les-Maranges, purchased by Pablo and Vincent's grandfather and now the most extensively planted parcel in the estate. The 2022 vintage across Maranges followed a challenging 2021 with abundance and excellent quality.
Domaine Chevrot has farmed in Cheilly-les-Maranges since 1830, established in its current form by grandparents Paul and Henriette Chevrot in 1936. Pablo and Vincent Chevrot, both trained oenologists, took over the 20-hectare estate in 2002 and 2007 respectively and converted to organic farming by 2008. Pablo serves as president of the Maranges appellation and co-founded Les Aligoteurs. Vicente Chevrot farms approximately two hectares by horse. The domaine produces 15 different AOCs across Maranges and Santenay.
