An emblematic cuvee of our domain, this very distinctive Blanc de Noirs offers a nice freshness. It has a midpoint between gourmandise and finesse. For all occasions.
In 1950, Andre Brément was a vineyard worker with ambition. In that year he purchased a tiny plot of land and planted his first vines. Fifteen years later, he quit his day job and focused solely on his own vineyard project. In 1972, after 22 years of nurturing his vines, he handed the torch to Alain Demets, husband to his daughter Marie. Alain was also a man with ambition and under his leadership, in 1986, 36 years after the first vines were planted, the family created Champagne Marie Demets, honoring the contributions of both sides of the family and releasing the first estate bottled wines. In 2008, Pierre, Grandson of Andre, joined the company after apprenticeships in Burgundy, Champagne, and New Zealand and in 2014 the torch was once again passed. The modern puzzle was completed in 2017 when Mathilde, wife to Pierre, joined the winery. Today, the two of them run the family domaine together.
The Demets family is based in the village of Gyé-sur-Seine in the Côte des Bar in the far southern reaches of Champagne. The winery covers slightly over 10 hectares of vines spread over the villages of Gyé-sur-Seine, Neuville-sur-Seine, Courteron, Polisy and Buxeuil; along the Seine Valley. The vineyard’s 15 plots stand on limestone and clay soil (Kimmeridgian and Portland Group) with varied exposures. The farming is certified HVE and VDC with and emphasis on biodiversity. Soil work is kept shallow and inputs are minimized - using certified organic products with a homeopathic approach. Chardonnay accounts for 30% of the vines. The Domaine has one Pinot Blanc plot which is an unusual variety in Champagne but makes a truly unique and wonderful single varietal wine. Pinot Noir grows on the rest of the land and is the backbone of the wines here.
