Pale salmon/pink in the glass. Aromas of raspberry and sour cherry. The palate is bright, showing citrus and savory herbs. Finishes crisp and saline, with lingering strawberry and raspberry, supported by subtle brioche and fine, persistent bubbles.

100% Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir was sourced from two distinct regions in the Cape Winelands: Darling (60%) and Durbanville (40%). The vineyards are rooted in a mix of weathered shale, rich limestone deposits, and decomposed granite, creating a layered and expressive foundation for this Cap Classique Rosé.

Hand-harvested and carefully selected, the grapes underwent a brief enzymatic extraction for natural color before whole-bunch pressing. Only the cuvée portion was used, with the clear juice settling before fermentation—primarily in stainless steel, with a small portion in Clayver pots (ceramic) to preserve purity. After blending, secondary fermentation occurred in-bottle, followed by five years of lees aging to build complexity. Traditional remuage and disgorgement removed sediment, and the wine was corked for an additional six months of maturation.

For decades, Pieter Ferreira has been synonymous with South African sparkling wine. After a celebrated 32-year career as winemaker at Graham Beck—South Africa’s pioneering Cap Classique producer—Pieter became one of the country’s most influential figures in traditional method sparkling wine. Today, alongside his wife Ann, he crafts boutique sparkling wines under the Pieter Ferreira Cap Classique label, founded in 2012 to push the boundaries of Cap Classique and elevate it on the world stage.

Though Pieter sources fruit from top sites across the Cape, it’s Robertson—with its cool nights and limestone-rich soils—that remains the spiritual home of the brand. With a philosophy rooted in finesse, restraint, and precision, Pieter’s sparkling wines reflect decades of expertise, experimentation, and an unwavering pursuit of perfection.

Each bottle is crafted in small quantities and aged extensively on the lees, honoring Pieter’s belief that time and terroir are essential ingredients in producing world-class sparkling wine. These wines are not Champagne imitations—they’re distinctly South African expressions of the traditional method. Regularly hailed by international critics, Pieter Ferreira Cap Classique is widely regarded as South Africa’s finest sparkling wine.

As Chairman of the Cap Classique Producers Association (CCPA)—founded in 1992 by a group of passionate “fizz fanatics”—Pieter has helped define and promote the rigorous standards that give the category global credibility. He also consults on sparkling wine projects worldwide, sharing his knowledge to help elevate producers from Australia to the United States.

More than a co-founder, Ann Ferreira is the driving force and owner of the Pieter Ferreira Cap Classique brand. With deep experience in marketing and brand building, Ann brings long-term vision, strategic leadership, and creative direction to the project. She is responsible for shaping the identity of the brand and expanding its global presence—all while honoring the roots of Cap Classique and its uniquely South African story.

Together, Ann and Pieter have not only crafted some of the country’s most refined and age-worthy sparkling wines—they’ve helped cement Cap Classique’s place among the world’s great sparkling wine categories, proudly rooted in South African soil.
