Limey, pithy, and bright. Chenin Blanc leads with citrus, yellow stone fruit, and a subtle creamy note. Verdelho contributes lift, verve, and a salty-citrus snap, while Viognier adds a whisper of aromatic depth. Exceptionally fresh with a long, mouthwatering finish. Eleven months in neutral oak, concrete, and foudré provide polish without weight.
69% Chenin Blanc, 29% Verdelho, and 2% Viognier
Sourced from granitic soils known for driving tension, texture, and purity. Each variety is naturally fermented and matured separately in seasoned French oak and concrete before blending at ten months. The result is a white wine defined by precision, freshness, and clear site expression.
South Africa’s Winemaker of the Year 2025, Donovan Rall, continues to set the pace for modern Cape white wine.
Donovan Rall is one of the most important voices in South African wine today. A key Cape Winemaker’s Guild member, and 2025 Winemaker of the Year by Tim Atkin MW, Donovan has built his reputation on precision blending—one of the toughest jobs in wine—and sourcing fruit from over 30 vineyards across the Western Cape. Each harvest he manages nearly 60 separate fermentations and aging lots, a painstaking process that demands both skill and vision. The result is a remarkable palette of blending material that produces small-batch wines consistently ranked among South Africa’s most exciting (and hardest to find).
Donovan’s style is hands-off and minimal intervention, always focused on letting the vineyard speak. Mediterranean and Rhône influences are clear, but his wines are distinctly South African in their clarity, energy, and rugged sense of place. Inspirations include the Mullineuxs’ work with soil expression, Porseleinberg’s Rhône-like Syrah, Pierre Gonon’s purity, and the precision of Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey.
