Scar of the Sea 'Casa Contenta Vineyard' 2024 Pinot Noir San Louis Obispo Coast
Scar of the Sea 'Casa Contenta Vineyard' 2024 Pinot Noir San Louis Obispo Coast
750ml bottle
12.5% abv
Light, saline, and red-fruited with a lifted, herbal, whole-cluster signature.
This is a new single vineyard release from the small 2 acre vineyard, Casa Contenta, which is located just west of our home ranch, Bassi, planted to a steep hillside estate that sits south facing. The vineyard is closer to the ocean but lower in elevation with heavier soil, a mix of loam and sandstone. We took over the farming at this site at the beginning of 2024 and were able to complete its transition to being Demeter certified biodynamic. The grapes were fermented with 40% whole cluster in small 1.5 bins, over two different picks. The grapes fermented with native yeast and were pressed at dryness in our wooden basket press. The wine aged in neutral French oak barrels for 10 months and a small amount of sulfur was added at bottling to capture the energy of the wine.
Made with certified biodynamic grapes, indigenous yeast & bacteria, and minimal effective SO2.

This site is a new Pinot Noir planting in Avila Beach, just west of the Topotero & Bassi Vineyards, one mile from the Pacific Ocean. Sourced for our Rosé bottling, Casa Contenta is 2 acres sitting in the heart of Avila Beach. Loamy hillsides make this site an oasis by the sea, with foggy evenings and sunny afternoons during the growing season.
