Nose of red fruits, anise, and mint. Medium body with medium acidity. Rustic, Claret-style Zinfandel. Cherry, cranberry, spearmint, and pepper on the palate. Exceptional length.

Sky Vineyard makes real, honest, mountain Zins (and a little Syrah) 2100 feet up in Mt. Veeder's red, volcanic soils. Lore Olds (yes, you can call these wines "Olds' school") has, since 1973, dry farmed naturally, with organic fertilizers, cover crops, birds, and beneficial insects rather than chemical inputs. He crushes in an old wooden basket press, punches down by hand and ages the wines in old French oak.
