A fruity-styled wine with a beautiful nose of white peach, grapefruit, minerals, starfruit, and smoke...superbly airy and elegant on the palate...a great sense of inner structure...the finesse and precision are already remarkable...will benefit hugely from a few years of bottle aging to allow all the elements to integrate. – Mosel Fine Wines
Farming: Working Organic, No copper sulphate
From Ulli Stein, the mineral magician of the Mosel. Consider this Ulli's “1er Cru” vineyard; though it’s a 1er Cru vineyard with 70 to 80+ year-old 100% ungrafted vines and a serious terroir of blue and grey slate. This is the “other” Himmelreich and, similar to its more famous sibling in Graach, the wines from this site always show a slimmer profile, a pronounced mineral fine-ness, and lift. With only about 15 grams RS (just beyond dry), this is a wildly restrained and chiseled, old-school, just-barely off-dry “Feinherb.”
Comprised of multiple small parcels on the Himmelreich in blue slate soils. 100% ungrafted vines averaging over 75 years old, farmed loyally by This is always a wine, racy and fresh.
