Rich aromas of strawberry and cherry liqueur meet with a hint of hibiscus on the nose of this bottling. The color on the wine is light, though the flavors are bolder, with baked cherry and toasted nut elements. – Matt Kettmann
"Planted in 1910 these Grenache vines are truly special and among the oldest vines in California. I am very fortunate to receive a small allocation of this fruit and even more fortunate to work with George Besson second-generation grower who manages the vineyard. Besson Vineyard which lies on the eastern side of the Santa Cruz Mountains benefits from cool coastal weather because it sits right at the base of the mountainside. This vineyard is dry-farmed and sits on gravely clay soils. Because of the vine age and conservative farming practices yields are extremely low and so quantities available are quite limited.
Inspiration came from classic Rhone Grenache this wine was 100% whole cluster fermentation with native yeast. This wine received one racking after malolactic fermentation and once before bottling. Aged for 17 months in 5-year-old French barrels.
Vibrant fresh pine, strawberries, and tart cherries with hints of dry leather and garrigue. Light-bodied with chewy tannins.
Pairs well with roasted lamb, stews, and BBQ... so many options I don’t think you can go wrong with this wine!"
