Deep ruby red with cherry, pomegranate, and plum aromas layered with hints of vanilla and caramel. Medium-bodied & balanced, showing juicy red fruit, light spice, and smooth tannins. Acidity lends freshness. Long finish, with lingering fruit and gentle oak sweetness.

100% organic Areni Noir

Volcanic soil with high content of sand and gravel. Continental climate with around 250 sun days/year.
Elevation: 1300m
Vinification: The grapes are harvested at the right degree of ripeness in the second half of October. Bunches are destemmed and crushed. The wine undergoes alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks, followed by an extended post-fermentative maceration. The wine is aged for 6 months in Caucasian oak barrels.

Best with grilled lamb, spicy pastas, or aged cheeses — enjoyable immediately, but will develop gracefully for years.

In 2009, three Armenian friends, all working in wine, decided to start their own vineyards. They chose a (stony, volcanic and sandy soil) high-altitude vineyard in the Voyots Dzor region near the world's oldest known wine-producing site for 6,100 years.

There they work organically, with heart, and with everyone who wants to make a useful contribution to their project. The wines are modern but very authentically Armenian.

For years, the Areni Noir in Armenia was mainly used to make brandy. But now that viticulture is coming back, many winemakers are turning to their unique Areni Noir to produce quality wines. Some say it's as a marriage between Pinot Noir and Sangiovese.

In the glass a medium dense cherry red color.
On the medium nose sour cherries, plums and pomegranate with hints of herbs, vanilla and liquorice.
On the palate dry, medium bodied with medium- tannins and medium+ acidity. Round mouthfeel with ripe red fruit like strawberries and raspberries, spices and sweet oak and a medium length finish. Very pleasant wine but a little too sweet for my palate.
