100% Grüner Veltliner from multiple plots on loess and sand soils in Großriedenthal and Hohenwarth, Weinviertel DAC. Demeter certified biodynamic.
Großriedenthal and Hohenwarth vineyards, Weinviertel DAC, Lower Austria. Loess and sandy soils. The Neuland is blended across the estate's various Grüner Veltliner parcels, designed to express the collective character of the holdings rather than a single site.
Spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts. Aged in stainless steel and neutral vessels. No fining, no filtration. Minimal sulfur.
Herbert Zillinger farms 22 hectares in the Weinviertel, the large appellation in northeastern Lower Austria between Vienna and the Czech border. He converted to biodynamic farming in 2004 and achieved Demeter certification in 2008, among the earliest in the Weinviertel. The estate is planted predominantly to Grüner Veltliner and Welschriesling, with smaller parcels of Riesling, Zweigelt, and Blaufränkisch. Zillinger's approach in the cellar is consistent across the range: spontaneous fermentation, no additions, no fining or filtration, and extended lees contact before bottling. The Neuland is the entry-level Grüner Veltliner, designed for early drinking and accessibility, sitting below the single-vineyard Edelgrund and Edle Weingärten in the hierarchy.
